Informal Summer Competition (s)

This year I’ve tried to do things a bit differently as the same old same old, can get a bit boring. Our first competition is in a similar vein to our previous summer comps but with different themes.

So, for our Summer Competition this year, I have given you six headings to find images of.  For the competition you may include as many or as few of the headings as you wish. It would be nice to see something a little different this year, so test your creativity and let your imagination run wild!

The headings are:
1.       A reflection
2.       A shadow
3.       Something that makes you smile
4.       A leading line
5.       Through the Looking Glass: Participants must shoot the image through a reflective, transparent, or refracted surface (glass, water, mirrors, etc.).
6.       Complimentary colours – Think back to Sue Freemans presentation on colour or refer to this:

Up to 6 images from any combination of the headings may be submitted, (6 from 1 heading; 1 from each heading; mixture of headings etc.).

All images must have been taken between 1st June and 31st August 2024.

Submit images to Paul Wallington be*********************@***il.com by midnight of Tuesday 2nd September.
Image resolution should be maximum 1600px x 1200px
The competition will be held on 16th September at the Hall.

Competition 2

For anyone that’s feeling adventurous and creative I thought I’d give you another challenge.

So, thinking back to our fabulous presentation earlier this season (December) ‘Print, Sew Scan’ by Liz Jeary, I thought we could give mixing media with a print a go ourselves. I’m not expecting anything as wonderful as Liz’s work, this is just for fun. So, if you have an old print you don’t mind sticking bits on to create a collage of sorts, please feel free to have a go.

It can be quite simple, i.e. sand and shells stuck to a seascape, wool stuck on to a sheep or let your imagination run wild, it can even be humorous (actual items, not photoshopped on). The dates in the rules above won’t apply to this competition, so feel free to use any old print or create a new print if you wish.

Liz scanned and reprinted her images once she had finished adding her mixed media to it. But I appreciate not everyone has a scanner or will want to go to the expense of reprinting their finished collage; so not expecting you to go to these lengths.

Here is the link to Liz Jeery’s presentation if you wish to remind yourself of it:
